About

1956-2019

Waclaw Oczeretko was a man of boundless skill who carried his artistic vision throughout his life adventures. Highly influenced by his months out at sea, his art grasps at the salty air of the Long Island Sound where his sailboat was moored.

Wacek was a Polish immigrant who left the west polish city of Szczecin for the United States in 1987. His initial years were spent in New York City where the local network of polish americans helped him get to his feet and feel at home.  In these years, Wacek created his first series of oil paintings. After years in the city he continued with his family to Long Island where he spent time in the area that became the largest inspiration for his work. Fascinated by the sea he spent his days sailing, fishing, and taking in the tidal beauty of the North Shore.

A variety of bold colors were chosen to create a depth which is coupled with a vague abstractness that hides deeper meanings within. Waceks works often use gratuitous amounts of paint to even further this depth of vision by producing physical depth and shadowing on the canvas itself. This make many of them difficult to illustrate with photography and are best appreciated in person
